It’s been a blessed year – Rocky Dawuni reflects on the year 2017

Ghanaian international afro music star and humanitarian activist Rocky Dawuni is reflecting on the year 2017 and the many successes he chalked.

The musician who is currently cooling off in Ghana for the holidays revealed to Spyderlee Entertainment TV’s Presenter Pamela Boateng during the just ended MUSIGA Presidential Grand Ball held at the State Banquet Hall that 2017 was a great year for him because of some of the great projects he embarked on.

‘2017 has been a year full of highs. It’s a year that I did a lot of work in terms of my UN works. I collaborated and traveled a lot on behalf of the UN. I was invited by the government of Canada and had the privilege of spending time with the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau… I also traveled to India and spent time with some Grammy nominees and winners… For me, it was a year that I was leveraging my music more to impact for social action and that’s something I’ve been working on for a long time,’ the African star said.

He continued; ‘another thing that also happened was the second lady Samira Bawumia and I were appointed as Ambassadors for ‘Clean Cook stoves’ so that was another privilege to address social, feminine and environmental issues. So in all, 2017 was a blessed year of music, activism and achieving great heights.’

The ‘African Soccer Fever’ crooner further stated that one of his prospects for the New Year is the release of his new album.

When asked how he’s positioned himself to groom other Ghanaian acts to be nominated for a Grammy or any international award scheme, the 2016 ‘Best Reggae Album’ Grammy nominee articulated that since his nomination, the door has now been opened for all Ghanaian musicians.

‘The way has already been opened. Before my nomination in Ghana’s history, we had never been to the Grammys. So opening the door has given everyone the confidence to walk in. Every Ghanaian artiste on the international platform is being recognized now because of the work we’ve done. When it comes to the Grammys, Ghana is already on the map because of my nomination. So now, any artist has the opportunity to be nominated and win it. The door is opened,’ Rocky Dawuni said.
