A female Saudi TV presenter sacked on her first day in the job

Image
A female Saudi TV presenter claims she was sacked on her first day in the job because she not deemed pretty enough. The woman says she reported for work at the station office, but was told by her boss she could not appear on TV. She is suing the company for discrimination and breach of contract. The presenter, who has not been identified, claims she was offered a contract by an Arab satellite channel in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. However, she was shocked to hear that her boss allegedly did not think she was beautiful enough to appear on TV when she arrived for her first day. This, she alleges, was a breach of contract because it did not stipulate a three-month probation period with a right for immediate dismissal. She also claims the director verbally abused her, it was reported by Gulf News, which cited an article in local daily Makkah. A court in Riyadh was due to examine the case. Last month, it was reported that female television presenters in Saudi Arabia are being ordered

MOSQUE BUILT BY MANSA MUSA EMPEROR OF MALI

Image
MOSQUE BUILT BY MANSA MUSA EMPEROR OF MALI Mansa Musa, fourteenth century emperor of the Mali Empire, is the medieval African ruler most known to the world outside Africa. His elaborate pilgrimage to the Muslim holy city of Mecca in 1324 introduced him to rulers in the Middle East and in Europe. His leadership of Mali, a state which stretched across two thousand miles from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Chad and which included all or parts of the modern nations of Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and Chad, ensured decades of peace and prosperity in Western Africa. In 1312 Musa became emperor following the death of his predecessor, Abu-Bakr II. When he was crowned, he was given the name Mansa meaning king. Mansa Musa was knowledgeable in Arabic and was described as a Muslim traditionalist. He became the first Muslim ruler in West Africa to make the nearly four thousand mile journey to Mecca. Preparing for the expedition took

Mansa Musa- extravagant hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca

Image
Mansa Musa is mostly remembered for his extravagant hajj , or pilgrimage, to Mecca with, according to the Arab historian al-Umari, 100 camel-loads of gold, each weighing 300 lbs.; 500 slaves, each carrying a 4 lb. gold staff; thousands of his subjects; as well as his senior wife, with her 500 attendants. With his lavish spending and generosity in Cairo and Mecca, he ran out of money and had to borrow at usurious rates of interest for the return trip. Al-Umari also states that Mansa Musa and his retinue "gave out so much gold that they depressed its value in Egypt and caused its value to fall." However, attention should be focused on the effects of the hajj, rather than the pilgrimage itself. The hajj planted Mali in men's minds and its riches fired up the imagination as El Dorado did later. In 1339, Mali appeared on a "Map of the World". In 1367, another map of the world showed a road leading from North Africa through the Atlas

MANSA MUSA- THE RICHEST MAN TO HAVE EVER LIVED

Image
MANSA MUSA-  THE RICHEST MAN TO HAVE EVER LIVED When we think of the world’s all-time richest people, names like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and John D Rockefeller immediately come to mind. But few would have thought, or even heard of, Mansa Musa I of Mali – the obscure 14th century African king who was today named the richest person in all history. With an inflation adjusted fortune of $400 billion, Mansa Musa I would have been considerably richer than the world’s current richest man, Carlos Slim, who ranks in 22nd place wi th a relatively paltry $68 billion.   The list, compiled by the Celebrity Net Worth website, ranks the world’s 24 richest people of all time. The list advertises itself as the top 25, but 26 names appear in the list.   Although the list spans 1000 years, some aspects of wealth appear consistent throughout history; there are no women on the list, only three members are alive today, and 14 of the top 25 are American.   The list uses the annual 2199.
