Image
On October 4th, TV3 issued a press release stating that their long-serving staff Nana Aba Anamoah has been ‘taken off air until further notice’. However Nana Aba has courted overwhelming public sympathy whilst her employers have been heavily criticized with many saying the decision was ‘very harsh'. A statement signed by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Augustus Dickson on Saturday said: “After preliminary investigations internally, and in accordance with TV3’s own commitment to the highest level of professionalism, Management has decided to take Nana Aba Anamoah off air until further notice.” Nana Aba Anamoah trended on twitter for at least two consecutive days but for the wrong reason. How Ebola Changed The World

Image
One year ago the World Health Organization officially declared there was an outbreak of Ebola across Guinea. The disease had already claimed dozens of lives and was on its way to neighbouring countries. This tiny virus, invisible to the naked eye, went on to kill more than 10,000 people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in the 12 months that followed. Numbers are now going down - but we are still far from zero. And the viral menace has left a permanent mark on the world. Ebola relies on intimate social interaction to ensure its continued survival - it is passed on through close contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals. This means people who care for the sick are most vulnerable to the disease. The most simple human touch - a handshake or a hug - was quickly discouraged across the three worst affected countries. Liberia lost its traditional finger-snap greeting. And the fabric of the final goodbye changed too. Traditional burial ceremonies were re-written, mou

On Wednesday, the three countries worst affected by Ebola - Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia - recorded their first week with no new cases since the outbreak began in March 2014. More than 11,000 people died in the West African Ebola outbreak, the worst known occurrence of the disease in history. New cases have fallen sharply in 2015, but the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the disease could break out again. The latest scare happened when a patient arrived at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital on Wednesday. Improved water supply and sanitation, and better management of water resources, can boost countries’ economic growth and can contribute greatly to poverty reduction. In 2010, the UN General Assembly explicitly recognised the human right to water and sanitation. Residents Turn Toilets Pits into Water Wells

Image
The lack of potable water for residents in and around Domeabra also known as Mpaha Junction, in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region has forced them to turn their pits meant for toilets into wells. An abandoned household latrines project initiated by SNV has become the only sure way residents can get what they described as portable water. Even though they were given slabs, they could not complete the project on their own after the NGO folded up in the community and its surrounding villages. Potable water is a luxury for the people in and around Mpaha Junction. Madam Jamila Adam, a sanitary inspector in the district said the people did not have the means to complete the project themselves hence their decision. She indicated that, the district assembly could take that up the project to ensure residents have places of convenience to help stop open defecation which has become the only way to get rid of human excreta. A resident, Mr Yaw Taminu who has also turned his pi
