Electoral College Votes Vrs Popular Vote

Image
Electoral College Votes Vrs Popular Vote The 2016 US presidential race will go down in history for many reasons as a truly extraordinary election. Although the final vote tallies are not yet in, the indications are that Hillary Clinton will become the fifth presidential candidate to lose the election despite winning the popular vote . For those of you not familiar with the intricacies of the US system of electing a president, it’s a two-step process. Each state is worth a set number of electoral college votes. In most states, the winner of the popular ballot gets all that state’s electoral college votes (unless members of the electoral college choose not to vote for them, but let’s not get into that for the moment). Who selects the Electors? Choosing each state's Electors is a two part process. First, the political parties in each state choose slates of potential Electors sometime before the general election. Second, on Election Day, the voters in each state s

December 19th Hillary Clinton Last Chance To Be US President

Image
This Tuesday's vote in the US Presidential election determined the electors in the Electoral College. On December 19 these electors will in turn cast the votes to legally elect the US president. Their vote, however, is extremely unlikely to change the results, being a purely a ceremonial occasion.  The authors of the petition acknowledge that if electors  “vote against their party, they usually pay a fine.” “But they can vote however they want and there is no legal means to stop them in most states,”  it adds. Clinton’s supporters in their petition on change.org are not losing hope though  they are calling on the electors “to ignore their states' votes and cast their ballots for [former] Secretary Clinton.” When he is sworn into office, President-elect Donald Trump will become the fourth commander-in-chief in US history to win in the Electoral College vote while losing the popular vote. Scripture tells us: Let us not grow weary in doing good,

Ghana's First Travelling Museum Ready To Tour The 10 Regions

Image
An innovative project in Ghana aims to make movable museums available nationwide by taking a small kiosk-sized gallery on the road to showcase artworks and cultural artifacts. The “kiosk museum” is the brainchild of Nana Oforiatta Ayim, a writer and film-maker, and founder of ANO, a non-profit art space in Accra. She decided to make use of an ubiquitous feature of west African architecture: the semi-legal containers present on every street corner, usually used by mechanics, hairdressers or stores selling food and supplies. Ayim collaborated with DK Osseo-Asare, an architect who has spent more than a decade researching kiosk culture and designing units in Ghana and Nigeria. He said official government policy was to “excise the informal from the city”, referring to the state’s disdain for the semi-legal structures, which have been flattened and torn down in some areas. Latifah Idriss , an Accra based architect who has worked with Ayim to further develop the structures, s

Still from "The Witches of Gambaga", by Yaba Badoe, a documentary that chronicles a community ofwomen condemned to live as witches in Northern Ghana In the North of Ghana, among the Dagomba, the name for a witch is Sonya, and a wizard is Bukpaha.
