This is Salem, age 5. A citizen of Yemen, Salem means peace. I sometimes wonder the world we will leave be hide. A bloody, hatred and chaotic world?  we are so confused, our problems getting more complicated. Salem hasn't done anything wrong, but he is paying the price, this isn't justice nor freedom.   Who is fighting whom? In recent months Yemen has descended into conflicts between several different groups, pushing the country "to the edge of civil war", according to the UN's special adviser. If indeed the future of our world is dependent on investing in the youth and creating an empowering environment for them to act towards achieving the universal sustainable development goals. Nonetheless, Northern Girl Initiative  also believe it is the responsibility of the youth to hold their authorities to task, to fight corruption, to push for accountability and in sum to help create a better world. This years  InternationalDayOfTheGirl   Northern Girl Initiative  organize a “Grow Confidently” event to inspire our young girls and to boost their confidence with  “confidence-boosting messages”.  at Zagyuri Basic School in the Tamale metropolis. Mama Laadi and the Spirit Children Foster Home

Mama Laadi Awuni (51), a former street child and nurse has dedicated her life to caring for vulnerable children in Ghana. While working as a nurse in Bolgatanga District 20 years ago, she started taking in homeless children who were shunned by their families because of their disabilities. When Mama Laadi finally had her own place to stay, a one-room apartment, she took in 12 children. When her employers (who were paying for her apartment) found out she was living with these children they kicked her out.  She later found alternative accommodation, but faced the same problem because her  neighbors  were not supportive of her living arrangements. “The other tenants started complaining and I was eventually chased out and lived with the children on the street to make sure someone was taking care of them,” she says.                                      In 2004, while living on the street she met a volunteer from the UK who was working for, Afrikids . A  child rights and communit
