Many media houses reported that Rocky Dawuni lost to Morgan Heritage, but I don't see it that way. Rocky Dawuni did not lose,on his bid to become the first Ghanaian and African to win the Best Reggae Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards, but rather Ghana and Africa lost it to the Morgan Heritage band. Cumbancha released Dawuni's sixth album, Branches of the Same Tree, on March 31st, 2015. It promises to bring him an even wider international audience. Reflecting his maturity as an artist, the album highlights Dawuni's ability to communicate a universal, uplifting message that crosses borders and reaches out to the hearts of millions. The first single for the new album "African Thriller" has made waves around the world with the amazing dance video. The event held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in the United States of America was hosted by LL Cool J. KENDRICK LAMAR LIT A FIRE UNDER THE GRAMMY'S ASS WITH HIS PERFORMANCE OF "THE BLACKER THE BERRY," AND "ALRIGHT; What Kendrick did at the 58th annual Grammy Awards was nothing short of iconic. Coming out wearing prison blues and his hands in chains to perform a medley of hits, the lights went off onstage to expose Lamar in neon body paint, dancing with the same people he was just chained. After transitioning to a makeshift African scene, Kendrick walked away after a swig of alcohol and found himself in a bleak are, this time in solitude instead of celebration. It was there that he performed an unreleased verse, the camera jumping back and forth across his pained face for dramatic effect.
Kendrick Lamar's positivity in the face of bleakness is admirable, but his ability to turn that attitude into art that continues to shake our paradigms is incredible. During the 58th annual Grammy awards, Kendrick Lamar outfitted the stage to look like a prison cell, and he as a prisoner. He ended his set with the words "Compton" projected in huge lettering across Africa. His message is about to make a lot of people uncomfortably face a conversation they've been trying to avoid, not unlike Beyonce was able to do with "Formation" last week. Kendrick Lamar controlled the crowd with a medley of songs from his recent Grammy-winning To Pimp A Butterfly, and it's not a performance we'll soon stop talking about. Watch the full video from Kendrick below.
Taylor Swift becomes first woman to win album of the year twice... and makes dig at Kanye West in speech; Taylor Swift has become the first woman to win album of the year twice at the Grammy Awards - and appeared to use the stage to respond to rapper Kanye West's claims that he made her famous. A song on West's new album The Life of Pablo includes lyrics that claim he propelled Swift into the limelight after he upstaged her win at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 to claim Beyonce was the rightful winner of her prize. After her record 1989 was named album of the year at the 58th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Swift took to the stage with her many collaborators.
She said: “As the first woman to win album of the year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and don't let those people sidetrack you, some day when you get where you're going you will look around and know it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.” Swift also won Grammys for best pop vocal album for 1989 and best music video for "Bad Blood", her collaboration with rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Rihanna Pulled Out of Grammys even after rehearsal: Her rep said that the singer's doctor put her on vocal rest for 48 hours because she "was at risk of hemorrhaging her vocal cords." Rihanna was M.I.A. at the 2016 Grammys after canceling her performance due to bronchitis per doctor's orders, Billboard confirmed. She was slated to sing "Kiss It Better," the smooch-y jam off her recent release Anti, for the 58th annual awards ceremony. Rihanna's rep said the singer's doctor put her on vocal rest for 48 hours because she "was at risk of hemorrhaging her vocal cords." Rihanna had been taking antibiotics for three days, though the meds "did not kill the infection adequately." She arrived at Los Angeles' Staples Center to rehearse her performance but did not walk the red carpet. Rihanna "killed it at rehearsal," per a source. The last-minute cancellation comes several days after she debuted her Fenty Puma by Rihanna collection in New York on Friday. Riri's long-awaited eighth studio album Anti — released via Tidal and Samsung last month — landed a million downloads in less than 15 hours following its Jan. 27 release. "1 MILLION in under 15 hrs!!!! NAVY R die!!!! Thank u to all my fans and @samsungmobileus," she tweeted.
