If indeed the future of our world is dependent on investing in the youth and creating an empowering environment for them to act towards achieving the universal sustainable development goals. Nonetheless, Northern Girl Initiative  also believe it is the responsibility of the youth to hold their authorities to task, to fight corruption, to push for accountability and in sum to help create a better world.

This years InternationalDayOfTheGirl Northern Girl Initiative organize a “Grow Confidently” event to inspire our young girls and to boost their confidence with “confidence-boosting messages”.  at Zagyuri Basic School in the Tamale metropolis. The event which saw young and efficient volunteers at their best as usual was definitely a memorable event in 2016 calendar.

The volunteers engaged the young girls of Zagyuri Basic School in discussions on how to be self confident, smart, tolerant and bold. The activities the volunteers engaged them in also included, spellings of words, how to communicate using body language, self expression and a lot more.

Ibrahim Mustapha author and motivational speaker encouraged and gave out motivational words and reminded the young girls on the importance of self confidence and actualization. Mr Mustapha also highlighted the career options available for young girls and its benefits.

Project Director of NGI, Ruka Yaro advised the young girls to do things that will make their family and the world to be proud them. she challenged them to take education serious and live a decent life. Mrs Asana Ibrahim recalled how she was afraid and shy when asked to speak in public, and it was a challenge she had to face.

Mrs Asana challenged the young girls of  Zagyuri Basic School to be bold and confident when asked to answer questions or speak in public.

Miss Awudu Sharifa and Ahmed Iklima shared with the girls Zagyuri Basic School the reasons and importance of the International Day of the Girl and dared them to take their education serious and make the world a better place, they also taught them the importance of  self acceptance and the acts of sharing and caring. Abdul Raafi Mohammed fishbone told the girls  Do not be afraid to express yourself because deep down you are all strong and confident

The “Northern Girl” is a metaphor to depict the vision of what and how the next generation of girls and women from the Northern Region of Ghana should look like. Embedded in this vision is a trans-formative element that targets opportunities and outcomes for girls and women from the region. It also entails a vision of girls and women as agents of change, whose empowerment will enhance their well being and that of their households and the country at large
