Looks like any Naija act who visits Northern Ghana gets a BET nomination. Nigerian music is heading global day in day out, with the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Tekno and more all signing record deals with international labels and afropop making waves across global charts. Naija artists are getting more and more recognition at global award shows.
Wizkid, Davido, Tekno & Mr Eazi have all been nominated in the Best International Act: Africa category of the 2017 BET Awards and Mr Eazi took his turn to visit Northern Ghana as his fellow naija friends namely Wizkid and Davido have also not only visited but have performed during musical concerts in the Northern Region capital.
Mr Eazi spent some time with VGMA2017 New act Fancy Gadam yesterday in the Tamale metropolis, as they both paid a courtesy call on the Dakpema Chief palace. The chief also shared with the artiste how they can use their musical gift to promote job creation and education. Mr Eazi woke up this morning to a refreshing bush break fast at Zaina Lodge. its not clear why Mr Eazi was in Tamale, but many have hinted that, fancy and Mr Eazi might be planning a show at the Tamale sports stadium very soon.
The biggest surprise this 2017 in the entertainment scene was when Nigerian-born Afrobeat artiste, Mr Eazi to didnt win the African Artiste of the Year at this year’s Ghana Music Awards. if one has to detail the work Mr Eazi had done over the past year the likes of, Patoranking, Runtown, Tekno, Nathaniel Bassey, couldn't match him boot for boot, but just like any other awards ceremony Runtown picked up the award for African Artiste of the Year at this year’s at the just ended Ghana Music Awards
Many believe it has become the norm lately, the African artiste who shows up at the awards, ends up winning the African Artiste of the Year. It was, therefore, no surprise, when Runtown arrived in Ghana and performed at the awards on April 8, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Reports on joynews indicates that in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with KMJ, Mr Eazi, born Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, said while he does know the criteria for choosing winners, he did not show up in Ghana because organizers, Charterhouse could not pay his performance fee.
“I don’t know the reason why I didn’t get the award. I want to believe that the organizers know the reason why I didn’t get the award maybe by their criteria but what I know is there was a request to be booked for that performance and my manager gave them the price and we even gave them a cheap price [$30,000] for the show and we didn’t hear from them anymore,” the ‘Skin Tight’ hit singer revealed.
He further disclosed that, “you have to understand on the day of the awards, I was performing in DC (Washington DC). I earned $35,000 performing in the University of Maryland on that night. So, it was a business decision but perhaps if they had made further negotiations, you know, me I love Ghana…”
