COUNTRYWISE GHANA FILMING INOCULATION TRAINING VIDEO

Legumes such as soyabeans, grand nuts and cow pea are among the most important crops in the world. They are rich in protein and therefore provide nutritious body building food for humans and animals. A leguminous plant always needs a certain amount of bacteria in the soil called rhizobia. The plants receive fixed nitrogen from the rhizobium bacteria for the productions of food and forage protein to enable us increase the levels of rhizobium bacteria in our plants, there is the need to properly inoculate your seed before planting.
METHODS OF INOCULATION Before we teach you the method involve, lets us hear from the officer from SARI as he tell us the importance of inoculations. Now that we have learn about the importance and why we have to inoculate our legumes before planting , lets us go ahead to learn about the various methods involve
. 1. first measure out one (1) kg of soybeans seed in a plastic pail / bowl 2. moisten the seed with water and then stir it uniformly with a wooden spatula 3. Add about 5g of the inoculants to the moistened seed in the container. 4. Again stir gently and uniformly until the seeds are fairly and uniformly coated. 5. Spread the seeds on a sheet of canvas material or any material in the shade to air- dry. 6. Allow them to dry at least one hour to allow the inoculants to adequately stich to the surface of the seed 7. And finally, you can sow the inoculants seed like the ordinary seed.
INOCULANTS STORAGE AND HANDLING
Legume inoculants are perishable and quickly lose their effectiveness when exposed to a temperature of 40.c or more. Inoculants retain their effectiveness for six (6) months or longer when stored at a temperature around 20.c. This period can be extended if refrigerated near 4.c – 26 but freezing inoculants will damage the product. Now that you have learnt about inoculating and how to store your inoculants, we will take the next step to teach you the sound of legume inoculants. 1. Use the correct inoculants for each legume. Check the label for the legume species you are planting. 2. Store inoculants in tightly closed bags. Use a sticker when inoculating seeds. 4. Apply soil inoculants when the soil is moist or just before irrigation or before sunrise or late afternoon when the soil is cool. Always cover the furrows after planting inoculated seeds .
