KIM DAVIS Jailed 6 days For Living According to her Christian Faith

l candidate Mike Huckabee said on "Hannity" tonight that the incarceration of Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, who was imprisoned for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, signals the beginning of a slippery slope of Christianity being "criminalized."
Huckabee told Sean Hannity that our freedoms of religion and speech are on a collision course with changing cultural norms. "When an unelected judge puts an elected official in jail for doing the job that she has, which is following the only law that she has in front of her, it’s interesting to me that she’s incarcerated without bail," Huckabee said. "I’ll tell you what’s coming, Sean. Next it’s going to be your pastor, the head of your Christian school. Who else is going to go to jail before this is over?" Huckabee wondered. "This is long from over. We have to stand up for what's right, what's free and what's constitutional." Kim Davis, the Rowan County clerk who has repeatedly refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, lost her bid for a stay when the U.S. Supreme Court denied her application. The Kentucky clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue gay marriage licenses has said she "needs time to rest" before she returns to work. Kim Davis, an elected official, has said that her Christian faith should exempt her from signing the licences. She was released from jail on Tuesday the under the condition she not interfere with her deputies as they issue licences. The US Supreme Court declared gay marriage legal in June. According to her lawyers, Ms Davis will return to her work on Friday or Monday. Ms Davis and her lawyers would not say whether she would comply with federal Judge David Bunning's conditions. If she doesn't not, she could be jailed again. After she was released, Ms Davis was greeted by thousands of cheering supporters who gathered outside the Carter County Detention Center. Ms Davis has become a heroine among conservative Christians who view marriage as only between a man and a woman. Her case has also become an issue in the Republican presidential campaign with several candidates - including former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Texas Senator Ted Cruz - championing her cause. Two federal courts and the US Supreme Court have ruled against Ms Davis after she repeatedly refused to issue marriage licences since June. Ms Davis, a Democrat who serves Rowan County, a rural area in eastern Kentucky, was found in contempt of court on Thursday and jailed. Because Ms Davis is an elected official, she cannot be fired. She could be impeached by the Kentucky legislature, but the body is not in session. Republicans split on Kim Davis In support: Mike Huckabee: The former Arkansas governor visited Ms Davis in jail on Tuesday and appeared by her side as she was released. "Let Kim go, but if you have to put someone in jail, I volunteer to go," he said. Ted Cruz: "Outrageous she was jailed 6 days for living according to her Christian faith," he tweeted after she was released. In the middle: Marco Rubio: "There should be a way to protect the religious freedom and conscience rights of individuals working in the office," the Florida senator said. Jeb Bush: "It seems to me that there ought to be common ground," the former Florida governor said. "I'm a little confused about why that can't be done." Against: Donald Trump: "You have to go with it. The decision's been made, and that is the law of the land." Carly Fiorina: The former CEO of Hewlett-Packard said Ms Davis should resign. "Given the fact that the government is paying her salary, I think that is not appropriate." John Kasich: "I respect the fact that this lady doesn't agree," the Ohio governor said. "But in terms of her responsibility I think she has to comply."
