Water, Health and Education in Ghana

Access to clean water is a major problem facing many Africa countries, figures from the world health organization states that 783 million people in sub Saharan Africa don’t have access to clean water. In Ghana, women are children do most of the house work. They clean, cook, wash and a lot more. And to do all these works, they need water.
UNICEF, CAMFED and WATERAID have indicated that many girls of school going age absent themselves from school due to the lack of access to water. Others will have to walk miles from home to get clean water to bath before coming to school, which leads to lateness and less concentration in class, because they get tired and sleep while class goes on. People who do not have access to clean water are exposed to water related diseases such as Cholera, guinea worm disease, lead poisoning, Diarrhoea, bilharzia, and fever. According to the world health organization and UNICEF, 1.8 Million people die every year from diarrhea and cholera. 90% of the 1.8 million are children under the age of 5, mostly in developing countries. Well some say water is a basic human necessity others say water is life, you can agree or disagree but the fact is lack of access to clean water can and has caused major harm to man and his environment. Individuals, NGOs and Government have done their best over the years to solve this problem. A lot has been done, but a lot needs to be done.
