Gushegu District Hospital Record's One Maternal death IN 2015

The Acting Medical Superintendent of the Gushegu District Hospital, Dr Barihama Adam has disclosed that the hospital is working hard to ensure they record a zero percent maternal mortality rate by 2017.

According to him, the hospital recorded seven maternal deaths in 2012 but worked hard to reduce it to one death last year. Dr Adam disclosed this at an open day celebration held by the hospital to highlight the successes, challenges and projections of the hospital. Speaking to Justice News Dr Adam said they have been able to achieve the reduction because of the measures they have put in place to deal with emergency cases they receive. He catalogued the measures as stocking the blood bank with blood to deal with emergency cases during labour, a ready theater to handle complications, a standby team to deal with complications among others.

He also attributed the achievement to the ultra modern health facility the district has. He noted that if a hospital lacks infrastructure, it could affect the outcome of the delivery.

Outlining the challenges of the hospital, Dr Adam said the reluctance of the people to donate blood remains a big challenge to the hospital and called on the indigenes to always donate blood to the hospital to save lives.
