In recent times there have been questions and arguments on and about northern music. Who is the best, who is the show stopper and a whole lot. Sanatu Zambang is going to release the top 11 Northern Musicians, stay put and don’t panic. 








Rocky Dawuni is a GRAMMY nominated Ghanaian singer and songwriter who performs his signature 'Afro Roots' sound which is a mixture of Reggae, Afrobeat, Highlife and soul music. He currently lives between Ghana and Los Angeles.


Noella Wiyaala is Ghanaian Afro pop singer-songwriter who sings in her native Sissala and Waale dialects and English, often combining all three languages within her songs. She has attained public renown with her single "Make Me Dance" and her androgynous image. After making her name in reality shows in Accra, she established a solo career in 2013 with the hit single "Rock My Body", which won her two awards at the 2014 first edition of the All Africa Music Awards, the Most Promising Artiste in Africa and Revelation of The African Continent



Emmanuel Andrews Samini  known by his stage name Samini (formerly as Batman Samini), is a Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall recording artiste from Wa, Ghana. His genre of music is a melodious mixture of highlife, dancehall, reggae and hip-hop. He terms his brand of music as the "African dancehall". He signed his first record deal with Ashanti International. Samini started his own record label after he left the aforementioned label.




R2Bees is a Ghanaian hip hop and hiplife duo from Tema made up of Faisal Hakeem (Paedae da Pralem/Omar Sterling) and Rashid Mugeez (Mugeez). They were nominated at the 2013 BET Awards. Beginning their career early, they started off representing their school in rap competitions as well as inter school music contests. This led them to participating in popular radio competition Kasahare, which they won most of and also performed at most shows; gaining them more buzz under their stage name at that time – Camp Yard


King Ayisoba born Albert Apoozore is a Ghanaian traditional musician known for his unique style of music along side the kologo.



Sharifa Gunu has been interested in dancing and music since she was young. She competed in regional and national dance competitions, winning the dance championship for the northern Region and second place in the 1998 National Dance Championship. She took second place in the Hiplife dance championship in 2003, where she met King Ayisoba and Terry Bonchaka, who subsequently become collaborators


Blakk Rasta née Abubakar Ahmed is a Ghanaian reggae musician and a radio presenter. The ‘Barack Obama’ hit singer, has been made a tourism Ambassador  for Zimbabwe. Black Rasta was one of the many guests to perform at the  7 th edition of the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA).



Mohammed Sheriff Yamusah  known by his stage name Doobia Sheriff Ghale, is a Ghana based international Reggae musician. He won the award for "Reggae Song of the Year" at the 2005 Ghana Music Awards for work from his album Sochira, which means "crossroads" in Dagbani





DEENSIAbdulai Yussif,Tahiru Shitu and Abdul-Rahaman Haruna (straw,shocker and ComDada) known in the showbiz as DEENSI literally means in-laws. Deensi won the 2014 VGMA Traditional Artiste(s) of the year at the annual Ghana Music Awards Festival.



DXD Dawuni is a Ghanaian Afro-Beat or Afro-pop /(Rapper/Singer) /composer/song writer/performer and a well-rounded Musician who was Born and raised in Accra but hails from a Royal family in the northern part of Ghana Tamale to be precise. DXD has performed on a lot of big platforms like TV3’s “Music Music” as well as the TV3 festival trains. He’s also performed on giant communication platforms such as MTN, TIGO and VODAFONE Shows. He has also shared stage on Bola Rays Empire Entertainment with the likes of R2bees, Kwaw Kesse, stonebwoy and any other big acts.  DXD was hosted for an exclusive one hour interview on the African Beat on VOA with David Vandy.



Sirina Issah is Singer-songwriter, she released her maiden album “Cheer the Stars” in 1993 which featured among other young musicians, 12 year old Big Adams. She currently has over nine (9) albums to her credit. Hits after hits, Sirina Issah set the standards for the young Northern music industry and groomed young rappers, Big Adams and Lil Malik, who would later become the godfathers of Hiplife in the region.
