Northern Regions Top 12 Best Music Videos of 2016

From a rocky bumpy start of 2016, music in Northern regions has seen great improvement even though there is more and more room for improvement. 


 2016 featured a lot of music videos from Northern regions artiste that went beyond our expectations to refine the art and culture form and redefine how the world sees music genius from the Northern Regions. This article considers music videos that features northern Ghana artiste. These are the year's 10 best







1- One Song from SHANTI SAMSARA by Ricky Kej, based on the Indian classical music Desh raag. One Song begins with just a simple melody sung by Charanraj accompanied by an Indian choir. Gradually, the music expands to include the sitar, bansuri, harmonium and S. African flute by Grammy® Winning Wouter Kellerman, mesmerizing vocals by Grammy® Winning songstress Darlene Koldenhoven, and a lush string orchestra. Bringing all these elements together is the warm, inviting voice of Grammy® nominated Ghanaian Reggae singer, Rocky Dawuni. While the musical elements may be complex, the song’s message is clear and simple: despite our differences, we are all just One Song and collectively responsible for our world.








2- Leno from the Album "Wiyaala" was released as a single on 01/02/2016. The multiple Award winning Afro Pop songstress and lioness of Africa has been phenomena this year. The upper west superstar deserves a starring role in an action-thriller at some point. Her recent music video KANDABANYE which means ‘’ Had I known ‘’ tell us she gonna be a something else in a true Africa drama tale. Wiyaala so much deserve to win the VGMA female artiste of the year sooner. The third edition of Jigwe Awards organized by Viasat 1 Ghana came off this Thursday at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra. Wiyaala has named female artiste of the year. Lets not forget her video Africa won best video at AFRIMA




3- Tamale is a beautiful outdoor street, composed by IsRahim and featuring Ghana’s Sharifa Gunu. The “Beautiful” hit maker is seen as the embodiment and portrayal of African art in a way that adds flamboyance to the concept of culture as expressed through Music. Abdul Rahim is an exceptional singer based in Tamale and is known in showbiz circles as IsRahim.



4- Mba Baga – This video show cases the cultural surrounding of the northern region, especially the Dagomba people. The art shown in the video is culturally appealing.  The songs and video portrays everything in the Dagomba circles and the message is clearly show even if you don’t understand the language



5- Baby Asana Despite been a cover for Tekno original Pana, Nazz Baby Asana a refix of Pana has gotten the much need play on radio and online. ‘’ You can hear an East African vibe mixed with a Ghanaian and Nigerian style of vocal delivery, however the singer still manages to sound original, something I attribute to his flawless switch  between his native language, pidgin and English, which suggests how much control and command he has on the song. It will be interesting to hear him on a song with Diamond Platinum of Tanzania or P-Square.’’- Mr Obed O. Otoo on Nazz music.  The picture quality and camera movement perfectly shot



6- Soorebia is a Hip Hop Artiste from Bolgatanga in the upper west region of Ghana. He has a unique style that combines Frafra, his native language, with English.  He is an energetic performer both on stage and in his music video. 




7- Stand Out- Dboy is a Ghanaian based Ukraine rapper, also known as ‘’ THE RAP SAPASHIN ‘’ is a rapper the world has to brace them and watch out for. Exceptional lyrical delivery. Punch lines on punch lines. His flow of his mother dialect to English language is so mesmerizing and appealing. The video goes very well with his flow considering his rap style and location.  



8- No Time – This video gives the viewer, the whole package the Dagbon Rapper carries with him. Saani is another energetic and artistic stage performer. Saani who is one of the musician’s in the northern region with great potential is hopeful that the future of Northern Music is brighter than what others imagine. 



9- Concrete  – the song is purely sung in his native Dagbani. The song has also enjoyed massive airplay on local and national television and radio stations. As of august 2016, concrete had 50,466 views on Youtube since its release on January 7, 2016. In as much as the song has been short indoors, the video still gives one the feel of the whole idea behind the song. 






10- My wife  Ataaka won the Best Rapper category last year in the Northern Music Award Scheme. The video shows another side of Ataaka that we usually don’t see. Ataaka naturally is shy and stiff, in the video my wife Ataaka tries to soften up and blend more to the song like Ruff and Smooth which makes it more fan to watch over and over again. 





11- In a Moment - Nuru keeps up with his classical rap delivery, ‘In A Moment’ features Atson a prolific singer and songwriter. IN A MOMENT was nominated in this year’s African Music Awards (AFRIMA 3.0).  Nuru studied his BSc in Applied Biology at the University for Development Studies in Tamale.



12- 69 Fans  - This song can easily be described as his best ever production, produced by Bluebeats with its video Directed by Marvelous Philms, 69 fans is the most popular song of the Rapper which brought him massive admiration around the country. The video has that feel of hood life, normally many videos doesn’t show much of the new Northern Region compared to the 69 fans video.
