Seidu Haruna is a father of one child and one wife, he has been farming for more than 10years. He grows 9 acres of maize and 1 acre of yam.
IFDC is the institution implementing the "Feed the Future - Ghana Agriculture Technology Transfer Seidu Haruna has benefited a lot from the Agricultural Technology Transfer Project. And with the introduction of Digital Green concept of easy access and making of Agricultural videos, to enhance farmer to farmer communication and extension officer to farmer training. Seidu Haruna hopes for bigger harvest in the near future. Seidu Haruna took us to his maize farmer, which was 2 to 3 weeks old, he was going to apply fertilizer, thus NPK 15 15 15. His farm was a quite far from his house. He said " since I'm going to apply fertilizer, I have to go to the farm very early, this will enable me protect my fertilizer from sunlight which takes out the strength of the fertilizer. " Since Seidu Haruna don't have hand gloves, he goes to the farmer with soap and water, so after the day farm work he wash his hands with the soap and water. Especially when it's fertilizer application he said " after applying fertilizer on my farm I wash my hands and when I get home a take a bath, so as to avoid dangers, as we all know fertilizer is a chemical harmful to humans and animals. To first apply the fertilizer, Seidu Haruna checked for the moisture content of the soil on his farmer, to me sure the land is moist. Then he went ahead to dibble close to each maize crop, then applied a voltic bottle lead of fertilizer to each hole and buried it.
He explained " I burry the fertilizer to avoid rain water or wind to take away the fertilizer, I have been practicing this method for a very long time and it has helped me a lot " . After our days work on the farm, my team and I were able to take a short video of Seidu Haruna method of applying fertilizer on his farm. Seidu Haruna called on other farmers to adopt to the new technologies been introduced to them as it's the only way the can see farming as not only for feeding their families but also as a business which would earn them more income. Thanks to the Training we received from Digital Green facilitators, the team were able to communicate effectively with the farmer and share ideas as it was their first time using Kodark Play Touch camera, and other equipment.
