Malala Yousafzai strikes gold: Highest scorer in British national exams

Adding another feather to her cap, Malala Yousafzai, the youngest recipient of a Nobel peace prize, has now secured the highest grades possible in UK's national school exams. The 18 year old has obtained six A-grades and also four As, which are the second highest in her O-level exams. She attends the Edgbaston High School in Birmingham and has achieved particularly well in Sciences, with top A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as in religious studies.
Ziauddin Yousafzai, Malala's father said, "My wife Toor Pekai and I are proud of Malala getting 6A*s and 4As. #education for every child," as reported in PTI. The youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai recently announced a new partnership with UNICEF to support and develop education policies for the Syrian refugee children in Jordon. She even celebrated her 18th birthday in Lebanon by opening a school for Syrian refugee girls, repeating her call for world leaders to invest in "books not bullets". Aiming at securing 12 years of free primary and secondary education for all children across the world, she also met with the World Bank President Jim Yong Kim to discuss the sustainable development goals. According to reports over the years, as many as 58 million children don't go to school. Although, the basic education fund has gone up from 2002 to 2009, the number of children getting in school has stagnated ever since. Malala first came to public attention through her anonymous diary, published on the BBC's Urdu website, which chronicled her desire to remain in education and for girls to have the chance of an education. At the time, scores of girls' schools were being destroyed by militants in the Swat valley where she lived. She survived being shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in October 2012 and was eventually flown to the UK for treatment and rehabilitation. The assassination attempt sparked a national and international outpouring of support for her. Meanwhile, Pakistani media has showered Malala with praise for her excellent results. "Nothing that Malala Yousafzai achieves seems startling anymore but she continues to make Pakistan proud," the Express Tribune wrote. Among those in Pakistan congratulating Malala was her friend Aseefa Badari, the daughter of the Pakistan People's party chair, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
