THREE DAYS IS TOO LONG ( Alhassan Rabiu )

Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, the prosaic ostensible meaning, others will say its an art form in which human language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, its notional and semantic content.

Mr Alhassan Rabiu has another heart aching, mind boiling poem.

THREE DAYS IS TOO LONG
A loud wail
is heard from
they that cannot

stand the news
but true wails
reside within the
very tunnels of
grieving hearts

It's yet another coming
of this frequent monster
who comes when he'll come
who turns mouths bitter
who turns minds sour
the monster then exhumes
buried sorrows that have slept
and here we're flabbergasted
by the sudden visit
robbing palms in dismay
while the monster's gone to come

Sons are then sent
to spread the news
daughters sit by mothers
and help produce tears
while the clichéd question
linger on crying lips
"so he's really gone?"

Here you lie breathless
with the strength gone
with the handsome looks
a lot but zilch
with the fame gone
like ashes in the winds
"bath him", they say
"dress him" they say
so they bury you
in the commonest
of all clothing -
a gear you hardly
would accept to wear

And when they take you
to feed to worms and maggots
the death of your story
begins a journey to decay
and diminish in the minds
of those that wept most
for you'll be forgotten
in as long as three days
"we can't eat" they voice
leave them;they'll eat
"we can't live", they chant
leave them; they'll live
they'll resume the laughter
resume the joyous feasts
go back to their businesses
while you remain with your
eternal business in solitude
hugging consequences or rewards
of your only business - deeds
for it all will be "RIP"
but you're just with your deeds
only your deeds!
