Grammy Nominated Singer- Songwriter Rocky Dawuni This September

This September is certainly a busy music schedule for Ghana's Rocky Dawuni, his current feature in Indian classical music Desh raag, One Song has received positive views across the globe. it is not every day that an all-star cast of stellar Grammy Award winning musicians from across the world comes together in the city to create mesmerising musical works of art. 

Ahead of his performance at the Legends of Africa event in Los Angeles, the GRAMMY nominated Ghanaian singer and songwriter is set to appear on different concrts and festivals this month. One Song is based on the Indian classical music Desh raag, One Song begins with just a simple melody sung by Charanraj accompanied by an Indian choir. Gradually, the music expands to include the sitar, bansuri, harmonium and S, That rare phenomenon happened in the recent meet and greet event organised at Indigo Live Music Bar by music producer, composer, conservationist and Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej. While the musical elements may be complex, the song’s message is clear and simple: despite our differences, we are all just One Song and collectively responsible for our world.


Starring Singer-songwriter Rocky, who performs his signature ‘Afro Roots’ sound with a mixture of reggae, Afrobeat, highlife and soul music and American vocalist Darlene Koldenhoven, South African flautist Wouter Kellerman, Vietnamese oan bau instrumentalist Hai Phuong, Mohan Veena player Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Tibetan monks of Sherabling among others, the artistes were in India to record a new special edition of Ricky’s world music album for environmental consciousness.

The world comes together at the 18th Annual World Music Festival Chicago, September 9–25, 2016, at a variety of venues across the city. Celebrating the diverse music from nations across the globe, this FREE festival is produced by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and is the largest festival of its kind in the United States. Highlights of the 2016 festival include the all night Ragamala: A Celebration of Indian Classical Music, a weekend collaboration with Chicago SummerDance in Grant Park, a concert in Millennium Park and the The 606 Walk + Peace Picnic.


In the second weekend of the festival, “Mr. Golden Voice of Africa” Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band performs on Saturday, September 17, at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion (201 E. Randolph St.). The afternoon of music will begin at 3pm with a performance by Herencia de Timbiquí, a fusion of traditional Afro music of Colombia’s Pacific coast and contemporary urban music. The following day, Sunday, September 18, The 606 Walk + Peace Picnic is a day of family-friendly activities including instrument making, peace procession, music and more. The Global Peace Picnic from 2 to 6pm at the Humboldt Park Boathouse (1301 N. Sacramento Ave.) features concerts by Rocky Dawuni, Herencia de Timbiquí, and Rajab Suleiman & Kithara.


The 23rd annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival returns to the heart of Bloomington, Indiana on September 15-18, 2016, filling the downtown streets once again with its eclectic blend of global sound and spectacle. For more than two decades, the non-profit Lotus Education and Arts Foundation has transformed downtown Bloomington into an exuberant world of music for one blissful, boisterous September weekend, in addition to providing a full range of multicultural music and art programming throughout the year. The Festival features a mix of ticketed evening events and plenty of free programming for the entire family to enjoy. From outdoor dance tents to contemplative church venues and historic theaters, and from the kid-friendly Lotus in the Park to art exhibitions and a swirling street scene, the Lotus vibe is one of exuberant energy, vivid colors, and delectably diverse soundscapes.



AFRICA RISING


89.9 KCRW presents Los Angeles' longest running African music event, Afro Funke', for an evening celebrating the influence and legacy of African music, culture and art. Presenting performances by two African bands, the event will also feature Afro Funke’ co-founder and Afro Roots star Rocky Dawuni and  Afro Funke’ resident DJs Jeremy Sole and Glenn Red, Dexter Story and Wondem featuring Marie Daulne (of Zap Mama), and more.
